I am a retired contractor after 40 years. I have built 3 personal homes in my lifetime, I have helped build many homes and remodeled 1,000’s.
If you do not need the space you will eliminate a lot of headaches now and in the future when the cement structure starts breaking down, cracking, shifting, flooding and deteriorating as they do.
I have outlined a very easy plan for a foundation which gives you up to 3 ft of crawl space under your home using 8 ft beams or columns and full access to your water inlet controls, sewer and plumbing lines and drains, any electrical runs to appliances, and your furnace duct work.
This type foundation is not used in typical homes with or without a crawl space as everyone has the mindset you “need” a cement foundation.
If you think about it, Homes on the ocean and along rivers do not have basements or cement foundations….they have pylons or “
columns” and this is the cheaper advantage of crawl space style homes.
